Who is Mr. Green Hornet Signs?
My name is Thomas Rivenburgh, I was born and raised
on Long Island, New York. I come from a large family
and loved it so much, I had to have one myself, I
hooked up with a widow with five children and we are
blessed with one of our own. Nothing beats family, we
are all close, and after 15 yrs our family is still growing
( with grandchildren).
I started in the sign business right out of High School. I
worked for many years learning the business, I also did
carpentry for a number of years and painting houses
and office buildings. I used the skills I developed over
the years and along with my degree in Commercial Art
to design logo's and layouts for local businesses.
While working out of my basement, I found I had a real
love for hand carving and continued to develop the
skills I needed to make wood carved signs. My skills
became known to other sign shops and they would
come to me for carved signs. I realized I needed a
bigger place to work, so I moved the shop down the
road from my house to the location I am at today.
My sister JoAnne came to run the office for me when I
moved into the new location. Through the years we
have gone through a number of workers until we came
upon Joe. Joe has been in the industry for over 35yrs
and has been a real asset to the company. They say
you're never too old to learn, and we have been
teaching each other ever since he came on board.
Where did I get the name Green Hornet ( every body
asks me that one )... I heard the name three times in
one week and the following week I bought a second
hand green van, I decided to nick name the van the
Green Hornet ( thanks to Dads help) and Green Hornet
Signs was born. Soon after the locals started calling
me the Green Hornet and now it's just HEY HORNET!
Other sign guys used to get a laugh out of my green
van with the hornet on it, but they never forget the
name, so I guess it works. Now, when they see my
work, they don't laugh any more.
